Human trafficking is one of the fast-growing crimes in the country with million of victims suffering daily. Well Delta Airlines is committed to helping out in a major way—and bringing trafficking survivors one step closer to starting new lives.

As reported by @fox5atlanta, Delta has stepped up and donated over 100 flights to fly human trafficking survivors to safety through the company’s SkyWish program, which is a mileage donation program. The efforts are in partnership with Polaris, the operator of the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

The statistics on human trafficking are astounding, with an estimated 25 million victims, based on the latest information from the International Labor Organization. Additionally, 71% of labor-trafficking victims reportedly fly to the United States during their exploitation, making airlines an unfortunate resource of human trafficking.

Delta has also committed to donate $1.5 million to Polaris, and since the company’s initial $1 million donation in back 2017, the hotline has reported a 36% increase in contacts from survivors.

Delta SkyMiles members can also get involved by offering to donate their miles to Polaris to help transport survivors, connect them to safety or provide critical care through the SkyWish program. Since announcing the initiative, Delta has already seen more than 6 million miles donated from both employees and customers.

Allison Ausband, Senior Vice President of In-Flight Service and Leader of Delta’s Executive Steering Committee Against Human Trafficking, had this to say about the donations:

“It’s rewarding to see tangible results of our partnership with Polaris helping the fight against human trafficking, and watching our support change lives. The problem of human trafficking has to be aggressively combatted from every angle, and for Delta that means getting our nearly 200 million customers and 80,000 employees on board in the fight. We all have a role to play and can make a difference.”

It’s great to see such a major company doing the work necessary to end such an increasing horrifying issue.
