Kim Kardashian joins the many people protesting the scheduled execution of Texas death row inmate Rodney Reed.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Reed’s story, Reed was convicted in a 1996 murder case and is scheduled to be executed on November 20th despite the fact that not only does he maintain his innocence, but that forensic experts say his guilt is medically and scientifically impossible, according to Innocence Project. There’s also the fact that the murder weapon has never been tested for DNA.

Kim took to Twitter late last night to tweet her support for Reed and to ask Texas Governor Greg Abbott to exonerate him.

“PLEASE @GovAbbott How can you execute a man when since his trial, substantial evidence that would exonerate Rodney Reed has come forward and even implicates the other person of interest. I URGE YOU TO DO THE RIGHT THING.”

Kim said she had just watched the movie “Just Mercy,” which is a film about a Bryan Stevenson book starring Jamie Foxx and Michael B. Jordan. She explained she had an emotional response to the movie because it’s “a true glimpse into the injustice that still happens today.”

She then went on to say that after watching the movie, she checked her email and followed up with Rodney Reed’s case. After hearing his story, she believes he is innocent.

Rallies have been held on Reed’s behalf in Texas’ capitol. He’s facing execution for the murder of Stacy Stites, a white woman, with whom he says he was having a secret affair.

At the time of the trial, no witnesses came forward to corroborate Stites and Reed’s consensual sexual relationship, which helped assist the prosecution’s argument for a guilty verdict. Since then, Stites’ own cousin and co-worker have admitted to knowing about their romantic relationship, according to the Innocence Project.

Authorities initially suspected Stites fiance, Giddings police officer Jimmy Fennell, in her murder, but it is believed he was cleared of any wrongdoing with the help of some racist cops.

Bastrop Sheriff’s Officer Curtis Davis, Fennell’s former best friend, admitted Fennell provided contradictory accounts of where he was on the night of Stites’ death.

There is currently a petition with more than 64,000 signatures asking for Reed’s freedom.

We’ll keep you posted on any updates, Roommates.
