There is no handbook that gives directions about the process of mourning a loved one, and it looks differently for everyone. So while some of Kobe Bryant’s friends and family shed tears about the loss of his life, others remembered the good times, including Shaq.

During the memorial service which celebrated the lives of Kobe and his daughter Gianna Bryant, many of their closest friends took the podium, speaking about their fondest memories.

Shaq, being one of Kobe’s former teammates, had the crowd crying tears of laughter after sharing the anecdote in which Kobe earned his respect.

Shaq remembers a game where Kobe seemed to be holding on to the ball a little too long, and some of the guys on the team complained about it. Shaq says he decided to talk to Kobe, and hit him with the oldest team player saying of all time.

“I said ‘Kobe, theres no ‘I” in ‘team’,” he says. “And Kobe said ‘I know, but theres an ‘m-e’ in that muthaf***a”.

And while the crowd burst into laughter, Shaq says he went back and told the other teammates to get the rebound because Kobe would not be passing the ball.

It certainly was an emotional ride hearing the stories of the people who love Kobe so dearly, and it is clear they will never let his legacy die!
