Sad news coming out of Philadelphia, as several police officers were shot earlier this afternoon after responding to an incident in a North Philadelphia neighborhood.
As reported by CNN, the latest count states that at least six police officers were shot after being in the middle of a standoff with gunman. Reportedly, all of the wounded officers have not sustained any life-threatening injuries.
Police were initially called to the scene of the standoff due to an investigation of drug activity when things spiraled out of control. More than 50 police vehicles arrived at the scene, with several shown on helicopter video with their guns drawn awaiting the suspect in question.
The situation is currently so serious that Temple University, which is about 2 miles from the standoff, put its Health Sciences Center on a lockdown, which has since been lifted. Donald Trump has also reportedly been notified of the situation although he has not issued a statement.
At press time, the gunman in the Philadelphia shooting has reportedly not been captured and is still armed inside the location. Local authorities are urging residents to avoid the area if possible.
We want to send our thoughts and prayers out to those impacted by today’s incident.
