As the country is still mourning the innocent lives that were claimed in the wake of the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, singer Khalid has stepped up to do his part with an act of kindness. He recently announced that he will be performing at a benefit concert in his adopted hometown of El Paso.
It still hard to make sense of the back-to-back tragedies stemming from gun violence that have occurred within the last week, but thankfully some of those with the largest platform and influence are committed to doing their part.
As reported by @CNN, R&B star Khalid announced on Twitter his plans to help the city of El Paso heal from such a devastating loss. He posted a series of tweets detailing his plans for an upcoming benefit concert, his love for El Paso, his prayers for Dayton, Ohio (who were also the victims of a mass shooting) and more.
Khalid’s initial tweet read:
“Over the past few days, my mind and heart have been heavy. Hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking. Singing “915” and “city of El Paso” on tour every night feels indescribable.”
He continued adding:
“Over the past few days, I’ve been thinking of ways to help out and support the city. I’m planning for a benefit concert later this month, all of the proceeds will go to the families affected by the shooting. Sending everyone my love and will keep you guys updated. Also, sending my love to Dayton, Ohio America is hurting right now.”
Khalid’s love for El Paso runs deep, as he expressed during a 2017 interview, saying of the city:
“I didn’t feel like I had a home until I moved to El Paso. The love and the friendships I made were influential. El Paso is where I started. I don’t feel like I’d be making the music I’m making now if I hadn’t gone there.”
We want to continue to keep the victims in El Paso, Dayton and Gilroy, California in our prayers during this difficult time.
Roommates, what are your thoughts on Khalid’s benefit concert?
